IN OUR NAMES — Volume I: The Real Backdrop

Editorial introduction — NOT a novel excerpt or a complete edition.

He crosses the border into Switzerland carrying a folder of emails, dates, identity documents and records of debts he does not recognize. He has come to report fraud committed in his family’s name. He expects a delay, a complaint number and a train home. Instead, at the police station, even the first handling of his name hints that something is wrong. The institution he has approached for protection already possesses the power to rewrite his story.

At home, Maya understands that a late return would never pass without a call. An architect and artist, she notices details other people dismiss: the placement of a chair, the timing of a smile, the difference between what a room claims to be and what it permits. When an official account clashes with what she knows of her husband, she measures it against years of ordinary behavior rather than surrendering to the prestige of a document.

IN OUR NAMES, Volume I — The Real Backdrop moves between a complaint that becomes a trap and the family life from which the complainant is abruptly separated. Bank records, police notes, inaccessible calls, offers of legal help and institutional routines acquire increasing weight. The novel asks what happens when the record is treated as evidence of a person, while the person’s own evidence is treated as an inconvenience.

This is a literary thriller of identity capture, trust and procedural violence. Its suspense comes from tangible decisions—who controls a phone call, who writes a note, which page disappears, who is believed—and from Maya’s refusal to confuse official confidence with truth. The story is fictionalized and belongs to the thriller, not to a court dossier.

This is a publisher-provided book description. An approved chapter excerpt will appear here only when the source is supplied and released.
