THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE IDEAS
Théophile Obenga
Théophile Obenga is a Congolese historian, Egyptologist and comparative linguist. His work moves between African intellectual history, language relationships, philosophy and the ancient Nile Valley. A contributor to UNESCO’s General History of Africa, he participated with Cheikh Anta Diop in the 1974 Cairo symposium on ancient Egypt. He later directed CICIBA and taught Africana Studies at San Francisco State University. Works such as La philosophie africaine de la période pharaonique reflect his sustained effort to examine African intellectual traditions through primary sources and cross-disciplinary comparison.
